What is PCR?

PCR (Post-consumer resin) is recycled plastic made from discarded items such as plastic milk and drink bottles. It is an environmentally sustainable solution for reusing single-use material that would otherwise be disposed of in landfill sites.

The production of PCR begins with the collection and sorting of these discarded plastics in commercial and residential recycling programmes. The recovered items are then ground, washed, dried and palletised, ready to be used again in future manufacturing. Using PCR not only saves on material and production costs when manufacturing new plastic goods, but it also requires less water consumption, less energy and fewer fossil fuels to process.

Most plastic products have a life cycle, however the use of post-consumer resins helps to forge a circular economy. Importantly, the use of PCR products helps to keep plastic waste away from our oceans and landfills by cycling it back into the manufacturing process and minimising the creation of new virgin plastics products.
